As CEO, Carlbaum spearheaded a comprehensive rebranding initiative, transforming Navistar into International Motors. This rebranding went beyond visual identity to include innovative operational strategies and smarter workflows, aligning the company with the evolving digital landscape. Under his leadership, the company not only gained market share in North America but also substantially increased profitability following the 2021 merger with the TRATON GROUP.

As global sustainability efforts continue to gain momentum, Carlbaum signed a commitment for International to develop science-based goals, supported the participation of International in the United Nations Global Compact initiative, reinforced the establishment of Powering America’s Commercial Transportation (PACT) alongside industry peers, and is driving further integration of software into International products to drive efficiency, safety and add customer value.

Beyond leading the operational and cultural post-merger management of International on behalf of the TRATON GROUP, Carlbaum has extensive experience in sales and international markets. For five years, he served as Executive Vice President, Commercial Operations of Scania CV AB in Södertälje, Sweden. In that role, Carlbaum managed support functions critical to sales and marketing efficiency.

Catharina Modahl Nilsson was born in 1963. She holds a Master of Science in Vehicle Engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Stockholm, Sweden. In 1987, Modahl Nilsson started her career as a trainee with Saab-Scania. She held a number of management positions at Scania CV AB, including Project Director/Head of Project Management Office and Engineering Director Cab Development. In 2016, Modahl Nilsson was named Head of Chassis, Cab, Complete Vehicle, and Bus in the TRATON GROUP. From 2019 to 2021, she was Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at Permobil Group. In January 2022, Modahl Nilsson took over as Head of Group Product Management in the TRATON GROUP. Since April 2023, she has been a member of the Executive Board of TRATON SE, responsible for TRATON Group Product Management.

Ms. Poppe joined PG&E in January 2021 after five years as President and CEO of CMS Energy and its principal subsidiary, Consumers Energy, where she focused on connecting the utility more closely with its customers and adapting lean operating system principles throughout the business. In her decade-long career with the Michigan company, she also served as Senior Vice President of Distribution Operations, Engineering and Transmission; Vice President of Customer Experience, Rates and Regulation; and Vice President of Customer Operations.

Previously, Ms. Poppe served as a Power Plant Director at DTE Energy. Prior to joining DTE Energy, she held a variety of plant management positions in the automotive industry.

Ms. Poppe is a member of the Board of Directors for Associated Electric & Gas Insurance Services Limited, Edison Electric Institute, Institute of Nuclear Power Operations and the Electric Power Research Institute.

She earned a master’s degree in management from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business and received a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in industrial engineering from Purdue University.

Prior to serving as Chair and CEO, Rumsey served as President and Chief Operating Officer, where she co-authored Destination Zero, the company’s strategy to go further, faster to reduce the greenhouse gas (GHG) and air quality impacts of its products. She has served in multiple leadership roles, including Vice President of Components and Chief Technical Officer, two roles where she oversaw the advancement and launch of many new products that continued to progress the company’s efforts reduce emissions while offering industry-leading performance.

Rumsey holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue University and a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Lars has over 30 years of experience from the heavy vehicle industry. Before joining Volvo Group, he was Head of R&D and CTO at Volkswagen Truck & Bus 2015-2016 and Senior Vice President Vehicle Definition R&D at Scania 2007-2015. Prior thereto, several senior positions at Scania.

Jeremy’s passions have always centered around travel, adventure, tourism, and hospitality. Over the past 5 years, Jeremy’s intellectual curiosity and desire to affect both climate and industry change has led him to become a leader within the battery operated/EV world of mass-passenger transportation. Recently, MTRWestern, along with their partner FlixBus, became the first privately owned carrier in North America to operate a 100% battery-electric motor coach in an intercity/interstate fixed route service.  As a leader in college and professional sports travel, MTRWestern was also the first company to carry professional teams (NHL) with a 100% battery-electric vehicle and over the course of our 1,700-mile journey, we were able to achieve 300+ mile legs.

Ivet Taneva is vice president of environmental affairs for Penske Transportation Solutions. She is entrusted with leading sustainability initiatives such as expanding Penske’s renewable energy program, GHG accounting & disclosure efforts, energy and efficiency initiatives, as well as grants and funding efforts for alternative fuel deployments.

Before joining Penske in 2023, Taneva was the senior director of ESG for The Container Store, where she led the oversight and reporting of all board level ESG topics. Prior to joining The Container Store, Taneva led the development and execution of Alcon’s global environmental sustainability strategy, including sustainable sourcing, manufacturing, and product development.

She was awarded both a bachelor’s degree in international economics and an executive MBA from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth, Texas.

Darren Tasker is vice president of Industrial for Volvo Penta of the Americas. In this position, he oversees development of the company’s power generation and off-road versatile equipment segments within North and Central America and the Caribbean. A long-time Volvo Penta employee, Tasker joined the company in 1996 as area account manager and internal sales engineer. He has also served as UK industrial sales manager, off- highway project director for Europe; and director of industrial business for the Americas. He also held the interim position of head of the organizations European Industrial division in 2018. Originally from the United Kingdom, he earned an MBA degree from Middlesex University. Tasker is a member of the Chartered Management Institute and a past chairman of the Association of Manufacturers of Power Generating Systems.

Tim Taylor managed the Land Use, Communications and Mobile Source Division at the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District (SMAQMD) from 1996 to 2003 and again from 2007 to his retirement in August of 2018. Between 2003 and 2007, he was the Government Relations Manager for Cleaire, a Bay Area based manufacturer of diesel particulate filters.

Mr. Taylor was part of the team that formed the Sacramento Clean Cities Coalition in 1994, and was selected as the Vice President of the Coalition at that time. He became co-coordinator of the coalition in 2015 and was appointed as the Executive Director in 2018. In 2022, he became Co-director along with his longtime colleague, Keith Leech when Mr. Leech retired from his fleet management career.

As Vice President, On Highway Market Development for Daimler Truck North America (DTNA), Greg Treinen is responsible for positioning and go-to-market strategy for Freightliner and Western Star on-highway truck products and Detroit powertrain and safety products. His team is responsible for on-highway segment strategy development, product marketing and dealer training.

Greg joined the Daimler Truck family in 2002 as part of the used truck acquisitions team at Daimler Truck Remarketing and spent more than three years on the Economic and Trucking Intelligence team. During his time with DTNA, Greg has held a number of managerial roles in the marketing organization, with more than a decade of experience leading cross-functional teams across multiple brands, products, market segments and emerging technologies. He led marketing and market development strategy for DTNA’s connected vehicle services and was instrumental in setting the vision for DTNA’s initial marketing communications efforts for e-mobility and autonomous trucking.

Bonnie serves as the Executive Director of Drive Clean Colorado, spearheading initiatives to ensure clean air for all by accelerating the adoption of clean transportation. Over the past 16 years in the clean transportation industry, she has developed expertise in funding and incentives for clean vehicles and infrastructure, starting with the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and the Volkswagen Diesel Emissions Environmental Mitigation Trust through the current funding landscape at the state and federal level, utility programs and more. Bonnie co-chairs the Colorado Women of EVs chapter and is a Board member of the Colorado Department of Transportation’s Transit Enterprise Board.

Dr. Sydney Vergis was appointed Deputy Executive Officer at the California Air Resources Board in June 2023. Dr. Vergis’ responsibilities include overseeing new and emerging air pollution control programs and policies related to mobile emissions sources. In addition, she oversees the incentive programs in the Sustainable Transportation and Communities Division and the Mobile Source Control Division (MSCD). Previously, Dr. Vergis was the Division Chief of MSCD, overseeing the development and implementation of medium-duty, heavy-duty and off-road emissions regulations, as well as many of CARB’s incentive programs. She previously led CARB’s Legislative Office and is a former Senior Land Use Planner and former Yolo County Planning Commissioner.  She is also a member of the Davis Sunrise Rotary Club.

Dr. Vergis received a B.S. in Environmental Policy Analysis and Planning, a B.A. in Economics and a Master of Science and Ph.D. in Transportation Technology and Policy, from the University of California Davis.

Joost de Vries is a globally respected professional with more than 35 years of experience in the automotive industry and has worked with major automotive brands including AB Volvo, Tesla, Karma, and DeLorean Motor Company. Responsible for ZM Trucks’ rapid global expansion, de Vries brings a unique blend of manufacturing expertise, global sales and after sales experience.

Dr. Thomas Wallner is the director of Argonne National Laboratory’s Transportation and Power Systems (TAPS) division. His team leverages its groundbreaking experimental and analytical capabilities to accelerate the development of advanced mobility and power technologies. TAPS focuses on conducting systematic and deep analyses and experimental evaluations of mobility technologies for on-road vehicles including light-, medium- and heavy-duty, non-road construction, agriculture, mining, rail, marine, and aviation sectors as well as stationary power generation, including combined heat and power systems. TAPS expertise and capabilities include workforce development, demonstration, and deployment of innovative technology solutions that support our nation’s energy security and competitiveness. Bob Wegeng is the President and Chief Technology Officer at STARS Technology Corporation, a Richland, WA-based company that is commercializing compact hydrogen production systems. Based on microchannel process technology (chemical reactors, heat exchangers and chemical separators), that were initially developed at the Department of Energy’s Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), these units are compact, efficient, process-intensive (allowing high process rates with minimal footprints) and are mass-producible.

STARS recently completed the two-year demonstration of a first-of-a-kind, clean hydrogen production pilot plant at the SunLine Transit Agency through a project that was co-sponsored by the Southern California Gas Corporation. The STARS pilot plant efficiently used renewable natural gas, delivered via “book-and-claim” through natural gas pipelines, to produce clean hydrogen for fuel cell buses.

In 17 years at REG, he played an instrumental role in building and operating North America’s largest biodiesel fleet, contributing to the company’s successful $3.15 billion acquisition by Chevron. Now serving as Chief Operating Officer at Oberon Fuels, Derek leads Oberon’s manufacturing, project engineering, EHS, regulatory and logistics functions. He brings his extensive operational expertise to optimize production at the company’s Maverick renewable DME production facility and future projects, continuing his legacy of advancing renewable fuel manufacturing excellence.

Awards of note are a U.S. EPA Clean Air Excellence Award for Transportation Efficiency Innovations and a #1 Government Green Fleet in North America.

Prior to joining Pilot, he served as VP of Business Development at Iwatani, assisting in the development of a fully integrated hydrogen value chain. He has also held leadership roles in Trillium, Sempra Energy, BP North America, and served as Executive Director of the California Hydrogen Business Council. He has served on several boards, including CalStart, NGV America, and the Conservation Corps of Long Beach.

Bill is a graduate of Columbia University’s executive business program and holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from California State University Long Beach.
